Rick’s Jewelers began nearly 30 years ago with a peddler’s license allowing the family to sell jewelry without a storefront by visiting local beauty shops, schools, banks, and city hall. In 1989 Rick’s Jewelers moved to the corner of Eye Plaza optical store with only two cases to sell jewelry. Then, one year later, a storefront was acquired inside Pratt Mall. A week after graduating from high school, Ashley Smith, went to Fort Payne for jewelry repair school and joined the family business. With two locations behind them, Rick’s Jewelers moved to their current location in 2000 at Covered Bridge Shopping Center. After surviving the tornado that struck Prattville in 2008, Ashley reopened the family business as the owner.
